My Favorite Breakfast Cereals

Posted by Jason on August 26, 2008

I’m an unabashed cereal lover.  (Pause…take a moment to think about what an odd word “cereal” is)  As long as I can remember, I’ve eaten cereal.  Sometimes for breakfast.   Sometimes for lunch.  Often for dinner.  During my 4 years of college, the cafeteria cereal bar was a staple of my diet….often as a replacement meal when I didn’t like what was on that day’s menu…and often as a simple, delicious after meal dessert.

I’ve eaten cereal out of plastic bowls, paper bowls, cups, tupperware containers, individual sized rip-top containers, straight out of the box, ceramic bowls, nice china, and directly from my hand.  I’ve eaten sugary cereals, fiber cereals, whole grain cereals, name brand cereals, generic brand cereals, cereals that no longer exist, cereals with prizes inside, cereals in boxes, cereals in bags, cereals that made me want to puke, and cereals that made me think I was in heaven.

Here’s a list of my all time favorite cereals….these are not in any real order, but I will bold print the ones that stand out above the rest.  These are both current and past favorites.  And I’m fully aware that there are cereals that are probably awesome that I’ve still never eaten (CoCo Wheats and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Cereal for example).  Also, just for fun, wikipedia offers a full list of breakfast cereals.  Also, some dude put together a pretty full list of cereals, just because he’s a cereal lover.  Take some time to look through and be reminded of your favorites.  Here are mine:

Apple Jacks … Captain Crunch … Cocoa Pebbles … Fruity Pebbles … Franken Berry … Count Chocula … Raisin Bran … Cookie CrispFrosted Flakes … Honeycomb … Smurf Berry Crunch … Trix … Cinnamon Toast Crunch … Honey Grahams … Lucky Charms … Cocoa Puffs

More Questions

Where have all the cowboys gone?

For you betters out there … I give the over/under on the number of seasons before American Idol finally fizzles out at 4.5 season.  Where do you put your money?

Who is this?

When a comedian or performer has an awesome show, someone might tell him, “man, you killed it out there tonight!”  Doesn’t that sound extremely odd and anti-funny?  I mean, if an assassin successfully guns a man down, does a cohort tell him, “dude, you had them laughing so hard out there!” ?? No, because that makes no sense.  Why do we say so many things that make no sense?

Did you know you can occasionally catch re-runs of ALF weeknights on WGN?

Which would you choose?  $1,000,000 in a wire transfer.  Or $3,000,000 in pennies truckloaded to your home and dumped in your yard?

Scrubs might be my all-time-favorite-tv-show-that-I-almost-never-watched.  What’s yours?

Whoooo let the dogs out!?  Woof, woof, woof!

Isn’t the mere fact that the period of time from a presidential election in November to the time the new president actually takes office in January is referred to as the ”LAME DUCK” period enough to persuade Congress to possibly revise that procedure?

Not Just a T-Shirt Company

Posted by Jason on August 20, 2008

Threds (my place of employment) has tried hard over the last couple of years to market themselves as more than just your standard t-shirt shop.  New logo, new website, new marketing campaigns, etc.  We do embroidery, custom design work, marketing, a WIDE variety of promotional products (check out www.searaywearables.com or www.nautiquegear.com to get an idea of what we can do).  As you may know from some previous posts, sometimes I get totally stressed out working here.  But sometimes (like today), we have our moments as a company that make you proud to be a part of it.

We’ve recently partnered with the UT Bookstore on campus to provide a customized, unique men’s and ladies “fashion apparel” line.  They’ve given us our own section in the store and we’ve just sent over our first production of 4 men’s and 8 women’s fashion-styled tees.  And they absolutely LOVE it.  The UT Bookstore has tons of basic tees…orange, white, all kinds of UT logos and designs…but nothing to speak of the “fashion” line – custom cuts, ladies fits, American Apparel, California style stuff.  But now they do…and I’m proud to have played a significant role in making this happen.  Here is a small sample of some of the designs we did for them….if you’re a visitor to the UT Bookstore, check out our stuff!  (unfortunately, these virtual designs don’t do the actual garment justice….you’d just have to see them to see how freaking awesome they look)

Is Michael Phelps really the greatest Olympian EVER

When did Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (one of them was on Weeds, season 3) go from being cute teen actresses to scary-looking, drugged up freakazoids?

I definitely lean more Democratic than Republican…but is anyone else as scared about Barak Obama as I am?

Things from the 70’s seem to keep coming back into style.  So will somebody please remake the Volkswagon Thing?

I had two vacation days scheduled for the end of this week.  I cancelled them because there’s so much going on at work I can’t keep up.  Does that mean I’m stupid and just working too much or that I’m a good, loyal employee?

Did anyone else really enjoy school lunch when they were growing up?  I did.

If you a had a choice between a slow & glitchy computer or a gun to your head, which would you choose?  (think hard before deciding)

Has anyone ever done the math to figure out exactly how many animals were on the Ark?  We know the dimensions, right?  So we can calculate the floor space?  And we can estimate the size of various animals?  And therefore can’t we reasonably guess how many different types were on board?

Is the Roman Catholic Church still universally relevant?

At what age will Tom Cruise actually start looking old?

A Jew, a Christian, and a Muslim embark on a sightseeing race across the state of North Dakota.  Which one dies of boredom first?

Weeds

Posted by Jason on August 15, 2008

In the last 8 days, Erin & I have watched the first TWO seasons of Weeds.  I’d heard it was good.  It’s a Showtime original comedy/drama that first aired in 2005.  I LOVED Mary Louise Parker on The West Wing  (side note – I loved EVERYTHING on The West Wing, about The West Wing, or even related to The West Wing).  So, it was worth a try.

WOWWWOOOWWWW!!!!  What an incredibly funny and off the beaten path show!  Seriously, 2 seasons in 8 days.  22 episodes in eight days.  At an average of 27 minutes per episode, that’s 594 minutes of watching Weeds in the last 8 days.  And we can’t wait to start season three this weekend!  I can’t even begin to explain the entire premise of the show.  It involves marijuana, a death in the family, desperate housewives, guns, condoms, pta meetings, family life, and more.  And who could have ever imagined that Kevin Nealon could be as genuinely funny as he is on this show?  I’m not talking about stupid/goofy Steve Martin funny.  I mean REALLY truly funny, and a really solid actor to boot.

Sufficeth to say…for the last 8 days….I’ve been high on Weeds.

** Update 8.18.2008 – we are now halfway through Season 3.

a few of life’s more simple pleasures

Posted by Jason on August 14, 2008

Peeing in the shower.  What an awesome time in the morning, waking up, having to pee pretty bad, getting in the shower, the water washing over you, and then finally peeing without really having to look or aim.  It’s one of the best times of the day.

58 degree mornings.  These can happen in the springs, the summer, or the fall.  But it’s so great to walk out the door in shorts and a t-shirt, still trying to wake up a little, and having just enough of a cool morning to give you a shiver and jump start your heart a bit.

A really good glass of sweet tea.  Sweet tea is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re gonna get.  Some are too sweet.  Some not enough.  Some are smooth.  Some are slightly bitter.  Some have too much lemon taste.  But when you take a drink of the perfect glass of sweet tea…the drink that tells you you’re about to consume at least 4 glasses before you’re done with your meal…that’s an amazing moment.

There are more I’ll share later.  What are some of yours?

If I was a girl …

Posted by Jason on August 12, 2008

… I would totally be in love with Michael Phelps.  What an athlete.  Pretty much the only reason I have any interest in the 2008 Olympics – that and the smog.  Who doesn’t love smog?

This can’t be comfortable

Took a picture of this dude while I was driving in the Turkey Creek area about 3 weeks ago.  Look at his arm position in the picture on the right!  I thought riding motorcyles was supposed to be relaxing?
