The Dancing Skeleton

Posted by Jason on June 3, 2008

Seriously (in my best Seinfeld voice), what’s the deal with the dancing skeletons?  And it’s not just skeletons.  I’ve also seen dancing blonde women, dancing brunette women, dancing men, and dancing ghost-like figures.  They’ve popped onto my screen on the Weather Channel, my car insurance website, and other places.  And they almost always seem to be dancing for joy at the new low interest rates offered by national banks.  Is a low interest rate so incredible that it would cause a dead man to rise from the grave and do what would be considered a mix between line dancing, disco, and hip hop?  Frankly, they’re odd, and a little creepy.  And they do not draw my attention to the website or advertisement, only to the freaky dancing thing.

I’m trying to think what might have inspired this pop-up-spam-banner advertisement craze, and I can only reach one conclusion.  The infamous dancing baby.  (remember Ali McBeal?) Just in case you’ve forgotten….

In Living Color

Posted by Jason on April 24, 2008

For some reason, in the last month, I’ve probably had at least 4-5 conversation with friends, co-workers, and in small group about the tv show “In Living Color”.  Don’t remember it?  Your loss.  Quite possibly the funniest comedy “variety” type show I’ve ever seen (right up there with Who’s Line Is It Anyway), aired from 1990-1994 and was the avenue by which all of the Wayans brothers, Jim Carey, and David Alan Grier became known.  Side note … Jennifer Lopez was a “fly girl” dancer on the show, before she hit it big as an actress.

In honor of the show, here is one of my favorite sketches.  Wanna see more?  Just hop on You Tube and search for “In Living Color”, “Fire Marshall Bill”, or “Homey the Clown”.  That will get you started.  Enjoy.

you tube addiction

Posted by Jason on February 20, 2008

Have you given thought to what we would do….we, the blogging, internet dependent nation of clones…if You Tube had never come along?

What would we laugh about? Would our senses of humor have ceased to evolve? How many posts could we possibly come up with on our own? How would we watch things – like the slam dunk contest or a series of Tiger Wood’s Top 10 shots – that we either don’t have access to or are not able/willing to pay for? What would we do when we get bored at work? Have we forgotten that there was once a time when people truly worked at least 8 hours each day?

I love reading things like, “I was doing some research the other day, and I came across this video on You Tube.” Isn’t that at least a little like saying, “I needed some insight on America’s unhealthly love of sports, so I spent the day playing basketball on my X-Box.”

Don’t get me wrong. I’m guilty too. But it almost feels like I took a nap and woke up and suddenly You Tube ruled the world. And we’re all willing servants in its widespread rule.
